Batik, or wax painting, originated in the Far East more than a thousand years ago. We use the traditional Javanese technique to produce batiks of outstanding beauty and craftsman-ship.
Working on pure cotton, these batiks are made by alternately waxing and dyeing each piece of fabric. Finally, the complete work is plunged into boiling water to remove the wax and it is then washed and ironed. In accordance with purist batik tradition, each colour is vat-dyed into the fabric and never painted on. BATIKS ARE NOT PRINTS, each piece is painstakingly individually waxed and dyed by hand.
Batiks may be machine washed in hot water if necessary.
